Using What I Got...

I attempted to create a home studio this weekend with some sheets, curtains, lamps, and my good ol' Kodak point and shoot camera. Below are the results. Just for the record, I am so ready for a brand new SLR Canon Digital camera... like NOW! It would make these experiments so much easier, and the pictures would come out so much better. But for what I had to work with, these aren't too bad!

Crazy Hotel, Water Park, and the Dbacks…

Craig’s family came up from Tuscon, and we decided to join them at the Point Hilton Squaw Peak Resort on Wednesday and Thursday. I’m not sure I would recommend the hotel to anyone, but it did have a fun little water park decorated in an old western theme.

Later on Thursday, some of us went to the Diamondback game. It was a slow game, so Craig and I decided to leave a few innings early. At that point, the Brewers were up 5 to nothing. Later that night, Craig’s dad called to tell us the Dbacks took the game in the very last inning, winning 6 – 5.

On my way home...

Lately when I’m driving home from work, I pass the time by looking for interesting things to photograph. I got out of work early last Friday, and decided to take the extra time as an opportunity to practice more picture taking.

Every day when I drive down 24th street, the first building that stands out to me is the old church with the beautiful water fountain in the front. I just love the vibe of this place!

A little further down the road, this yellow truck has been on sale for weeks… I think it’s the yellow color and old style that catches my eye from the road.

There’s this brick wall I have driven past hundreds of times before, and it was never anything special, until a few weeks ago. On my normal routine home, I was distracted by an enormous amount of color that stretched at least a mile long, and the police were outside photographing it. Some may call it graffiti, but I think it is stunning. I was a little bit of a chicken, and did not stay as long as I would have liked to take pictures. I wanted to photograph of the entire wall, but the area is not the safest, and it was probably not my smartest move being alone here. But I am still glad I stopped and snapped a few shots.

My last stop was at Gardner’s World, on Baseline. Everyone here was so nice, and let me photograph the facility as long as I wanted. The place stretches back much farther than you would expect from the road. It was so peaceful and so much love has been put into the place. I definitely will return.
